red sedum or creeping phlox?

Hi I am trying to figure out which would work better. I have a 25 by 5 foot area between a walkway and a retaining wall that I want to plant with something other than grass.

I am intrigued now by the red sedum because I read it blooms for a long time. Has anyone seen it used in an area this large or would it look strange by itself? Does it fill in well? I have dry sandy soil in a sunny location. I don't think the soil is great quality.

I was thinking about bright pink creeping phlox because it is so pretty in bloom but it sounds like most of the year it doesn't look all that great?

If you want to do multiple plants in a long rectangular area like this, how would you do it? Would you plant two separate rows? Or would you stick with one kind of groundcover and just plant some plants if you want to make it more interesting? I am afraid if I do different types of groundcover it would look very haphazard and messy....

Thank you!!!
