Afraid to plant it!

Hi everyone. I purchased myrtle a few weeks ago because I love how it looks. I knew that it was an aggressive plant, but the review I've seen online are scaring me! :) I have several areas when I could plant it, but most of them border the lawn and I have a feeling that I would be setting myself up for A LOT of work in the future once it is established.

I have a planting area that is surrounded by concrete (the front of the house on one side, then a long sidewalk the leads to the driveway. I am thinking about putting it there since it will be "captive". However, there are already hostas and day lilies planted in the area. Would myrtle choke the existing plants, or would it just provide a nice cover around them?

Vinca minor is much more restrained than major, though it often gets associated with its larger-leafed cousin. I assume you are talking about minor since you are in zone 6 and major is marginally hardy there. I doubt minor would choke out the hosta, but you may have to trim it occasionally.

in my area both vincas are easily controlled by spring pruning of trailing stems. If desired you can also prune in summer, but I only do if the stem length is in the path or out of "zone" I've given plant. So far it's not been a problem for me and I have had vinca major for 15+ years.

When you don't redirect stems that aim toward crowns of other plants is when it might be considered invasive. It will root where it touches.
