Sow covercrop INTO existing grass?

frumgirl

My landlord won't let me kill off the grass to plant pretty ground covers and a cover crop, but doesn't mind if I sow the ground cover INTO the existing grass. I have creeping thyme, red and crimson clover, johnny jump ups, and an "aggressive" wildflower mix.

I had planned to cover the existing grass with burlap+soil and sow my seeds onto that, as I've done before with fabulous results, but I'm at a loss for what to do now.

Is there any way to get my clover cover crop and the ground covers to take root and establish through the grass?

Please help!! We have such a huge lawn and I hate all of this boring grass.
