Unique conditions - or is that impossible conditions?

What will grow under this large oak tree. This is under an oak, that was once limbed up. Get's a good bit of sun in this bed, even though it is under a tree.

I would say mostly sun in this bed. What I've tried already: Carolina jasmine, stella d'or daylilies, monkey grass. No go, stella are "hanging in" but not real happy.

It is very dry, in spite of watering a lot, soaker hose. What, if anything will grow here.

That's dry, mostly sun, slope, under large oak tree (very little shade in bed.) Zone 7 North Mississippi. I'm all ears!
Thanks

I have luck with Spiderwort, but I do have to water when it gets really dry. Yucca does well without additional watering. Another good one, a groundcover, might be Epimedium, barrenwort. Can take dry soil after the 1st year. This is a very hard situation to plant in. I have 3 large Oaks in my front yard, I get morning sun, and these have done well for me. Alliums do well here too. Good luck!

Strawberry begonia will be very happy there.
