Bugleweed / Ajuga

Some suppliers advise planting only in shade while others claim the color stays better in the sun. Has anyone had success with this ground cover in full sun?

Hi,

I grow 'Chocolate chip' in full afternoon sun, the colors are very rich and the plant blooms for a long time. I wouldnt let it dry out in full sun, mine stays on the moist side. I havent grown any in shade, but do have success in sun.

I grew 'burgundy glow' ajuga in a full sun situation and it did TOO well. By that I mean it became invasive and I just recently yanked most of it out. I kept a few pieces and transplanted them to other spots where they could spread without crowding neighboring plants.
That particular ajuga isn't supposed to grow well in full sun, but it does in my garden - quite vigorously.

I also have 'chocolate chip' ajuga doing well in my rock garden. No problems.

Just make sure, if planting in full sun, that you don't allow the soil to completely dry out between waterings.
