Which ground cover to use between patio pavers?

I have a large patio area between my driveway and kitchen doors. The patio has pavers laid in dirt. In between each paver is approximately a 4" diamond of dirt that needs to be plugged with a ground cover (I guess). The area gets intermitant morning sun and dappled afternoon sun. I'd like to plant something that will choke out the weeds. Some of this patio area will be walked on whenever someone goes back and forth to the car. I live in a good growing region in Southern Oregon.

Any suggestions on what (perhaps a combination of ground covers) would work best?

I'm a big fan of wooly thyme. Elfin thymes, Irish moss and creeping phlox are nice, too. Some miniature sedums might look good... a few will tolerate occasional light foot traffic, and they are very drought tolerant. Corsican mint does not like too much sun, but it is extremely low-growing and smells wonderful when you walk on it.
