need ideas for groundcover

I have a semi-steep slope that gets afternoon sun. Since we all either have bad knees or weak ankles we need to put in something that does not need mowed. Our hope is to find a groundcover that will work there with minimal fuss. We thought a combination of flowering and non flowering covers would look nice. But we do not know what to use. I have some ivy on the other side that I think is english ivy. I hate the stuff as it takes over so quickly and the previous owners left it grow wild. I am yanking it out all the time. I could use some of that if I could get it to transplant but it always dies out on me.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have a steep bank that is very wet in winter but doesn't get any water in summer. I put some tough gc on it to fight it out, and add a little variety-
ground cover Comfrey- Symphytum ibericum, blue to pink to white flowers in spring
Geranium macrorrhyzum- very tough, pinkish flowers
St. John's Wort- Hypericum calycinum, yellow flowers
