Wintergreen

I have an area I would like to fill in with a groundcover. I'm tired of weeding it, and hoping, that once the groundcover is established, that weeds won't stand a chance? Maybe I'm wrong! Only ground cover until this point I've had is GRASS!

I am not finding it anywhere locally here YET, have found a few places to order online.

I see it is a slow growing plant, that is ok, and the area it would be planted in is in shade nearly 3/4 of the day. Once established, would I still have to worry about weeds?

Otherwise, can I get some ideas of other possibilities? The reason for planting is WEEDS. The reason I like the wintergreen is because it's a broadleaf evergreen, the shiny leaves, and the fact that it likes shade.

Thanks!
Angie

Wintergreen will definitely not make a barrier to weeds.

My mother has had a small patch of it under an azalea in her yard for years....grows very s-l-o-w-l-y, so I don't think it'd make much of a groundcover, nor would it keep the weeds away.
Ajuga might be a good choice...certainly keeps down weeds where I have it growing in my yard. Only problem is that Ajuga is so aggressive it could be classified as a "weed" for some people...I have it in abundance. Love it.

Thank you, I will look into those. I had read that creeping wintergreen was a slow grower....darn...I really like it! Will keep looking and learning though!
