We have just put in 8 brick columns across the front of our lawn..my plans are to make a woodland area across the front of my yard all the way to the road...the columns are 8 feet apart with 4x6 beams running between ...two times...that is two 4x6 beams inserted and spaced in the columns...with a 4foot way area..I am going to do like a flagstone walkway through this mulched and planted area...to the grass that is the green lawn just infront of the house...I want to do some everygreen 'juniper' type plants along the base of the brick columns...along the road...this area is in total sun just in the winter...and shade in the summer....help.... was wondering about the different junipers and then read aout the Microbiota decussata Russian Arborvitae Cupressaceae
help. !!!!!!!!!! :) bobbieb

The Russian Arborvitae isn't likely to do well in our heat and humidity (I'm sc zone 8, too). I think the warmest zone it will tolerate is zone 7. It's a gorgeous plant, but I'd stick with the junipers, or choose something else.

Oh, I want it sooo bad...and junipers can'at take my shade...I have a freind here that has teh Russian Arborvitae in her yard here in Hartsville, and they are beautiful and doing wonderful...I'm just afraid of the shade...but I read they can take shade....does anyone know anything else, that would look kinda like this for shade...and wont' get tall..this needs to stay short....thanks.. Low growing Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Fritz Huber is the cultivar I think. Looks kind of like yew. Tolerates shade and Southern heat
