flea beetles killing my dichondra

I love the combination of sunset, bare feet and dichondra. Every year flea beetles come in with the heat and kill off most of it. I save what I can and then replant in cooler weather. The really toxic poisons work better than the "safer" ones. I worry about the poisons especially since I like to sit on my small (10x13 feet) lawn. I don't use poisons any other time in my yard. Is there anything safe I can use to fight these invaders? Does anyone have an idea for a substitute for dichondra? The area gets sun from 10am to 4 or 5 pm and is in southern California. I just love my dichondra and it breaks my heart to see it die out every year.
