Mulch under creeping juniper

Hello everybody.
I am planing to plant some creeping juniper on the part on the backyard which is too steep to mow. I read that it should be perferct for my purpose, it is very tolerant to light and soil condition, easy to control and I like the look of it. The only negative thing about it seems to be that it doesn't supress the weeds very well. Is it true in your experience?
Do I have to put mulch on before it speads enough and will I need to keep mulching to suppress the weeds?
If so I thought the permanent weed suppressor like may be landscape fabric is the best choice for this because I can imagine that it will be difficult to put the mulch under the groundcover (and it kind of defeats the purpose).

| I had a similar situation, and the junipers worked well, but I did have to weed and mulch around them. Places where the junipers grew dense, I did not have to mulch/weed. Please do a search on landscape fabric, and read the horror stories. In my experience, it does not supress weeds from below unless a mulch is covering it, and stuff (leaf litter, dust, etc..) accumulates on top of it, and weeds grow in that, on top. Plus it is a real pain to plant in, take out, etc... |
