GC for hill on side of driveway

I'm looking for a no maintenance ground cover that will help with erosion on the side of my driveway where my retaining wall ends. The clayish soil is exposed right now due to the construction of the wall, so I need something right away to hold until the shrubs, grasses, or whatever I plant grows. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Should I use some type of erosion control fabric first? Thanks in advance for any help...

I'm not familiar with erosion control fabric, but I did see in the Gardens Alive! catalog something that might be similar. It is called Gaurdian Seed Starter Mat and it is a carpet of weed-free straw that you roll onto the surface and pin into the ground. It might be an alternative to a synthetic covering. I'm not sure of how quickly it decomposes, though. You can check it out at GardensAlive.com.
