Gopher damage: Dichondra silver falls

| Gophers have made my fairly new, but established, dichondra a favorite spot. The took about 1/3 of it underground and chewed some of the roots. Is there any way to save it? How about taking it out of the ground and potting it until I can get rid of the gophers? Will it re-root? Or can I somehow try to accelerate root growth? Help! I love this plant! They could have had any other one in the landscaping! |

| You can easily pot it up, just letting runners dangle over sides and spread out. Might be a good way to foil the gophers, having roots in a low pot. Also easy from cuttings. Would laying chicken wire over ground and letting the Dichondra grow up through it help from digging aboveground? Or form a chickenwire "basket" in ground to plant in as folks sometimes do for bulb protection from rodents. Good luck...I love this plant too. josh |
