Asian Jasmine alternative

Hi,

In the bed pictured below I wanted asian jasmine. But the problem I have is that EVERYONE around here uses it for the same purpose. I'm trying to be a little different here. I plan to have it growing down into the ditch to hold the dirt and hopefully smother out some weeds. Around the perimeter I plan something simple like boxwood and maybe a 6' crepe myrtle.

I was looking at the one at this link:

VINCA minor (Periwinkle). but it says part sun to shade... I'm afraid it will burn up in the texas heat. Is there something similar that can work for me here?

Your going to have to pull those weeds out of there to start with.
Personally, I would plant ice plant in there.
It will not die in the winter where you live, and it blooms all summer without any special care at all.
I have a trench in front of my house, (it's really long) and I recently planted Pacific blue junipers every 3-4 feet.
I will have to weed the area til they grow in, but once they grow in, they will be pretty much carefree.
Good Luck!
