My wooly thyme lawn replacement

Section 1 was a dozen or so plants along the top of the rockery. Section 2 was to fill the rest of that area.

I spent a couple years propagating a couple of varieties I think are pretty indestructible, dense, and low-maintenance.

I also laid out tarps covered with wood chips to kill off the grass and other stuff.

Two weeks ago, I started planting my next section, an area about 20 x 20.

There are about 400 plants, including the swoosh of brighter green ones parallel to the pavers.

I figure it will be a couple of years for it to grow in. Then...

Nothing to water, nothing to mow.

Wow--This is what I am doing next spring on my easement strip! I'm going to use Mother of Thyme, because it is much hardier up here in Milwaukee. There is a thread from about June of this year with pictures where I ask a whole bunch of questions about this. You may want to check it out, though I don't know how you'd track it down. Congrats and good luck--it looks great!

Does anyone know where I can get magic carpet thyme-Thymus serpyllum 'magic'? Also, in what zones will wooly thyme thrive?

I love thyme gardens, and yours is lovely. I appreciate how you showed your garden preparation and propagation area. It gives folks a good idea of how to get started planting a larger thyme garden.

Here is a link that might be useful: My Thyme Garden
