Ajuga fears

| I currently have some Ajuga 'Metallica Crispa' in a confined area that is doing fine. It is surrounded by patio and path and house so it can't get out of bounds. I dug out some chunks of it to make room for some Japanese Painted Fern to try to share the space.
My problem is that I can't bring myself to throw away the extra Ajuga. I was thinking of putting it in a natural woodland area to keep down some weeds along the edges. Or along the very edge of the road where all sorts of weeds persist.
But there are cultivated trees & shrubs & perennials adjacent to these areas and I am afraid I might regret the decision if the Ajuga gets into the nice area too. Eventually I want to get more refined and diversified groundcovers in this nicer area.
Am I right to be afraid of Ajuga getting out of control? |

| I think you'd need to barricade it somehow. It's wonderfully effective against weeds, but it will try to take over. Maureen |

| I think some varieties are much more vigorous than others. I find 'Burgundy Glow' for example to be quite restrained, whereas the purple leafed one (sorry, the cultivar name escapes me) was something of a thug. 'Chocolate Chip' increases nicely, but could never be called aggressive. |
