need groundcover for sunny slope, drought resistant

We are building a new house in Simi Valley, CA. The front yard consists entirely of a slope, about 80' wide, and 12' tall at most. We need to select a drought-resistant ground cover. Can anyone give me some ideas? Of course we hope for beauty and low maintenance, but who doesn't!!

How well do African daisies do in your area? Lampranthus, Arctotis, Gazania... And some of your own low-growing desert shrubs/grasses.
