Hi, all! I'm looking to go over to the dark side and replace my St. Augustine with a Straggler Daisy (Horseherb) groundcover. But, I've heard anecdotally that this can provide a breeding ground for mosquitoes, especially if you allow leaves to decay beneath them - and I do have three large trees - but I'm reading here that you need standing water for that. It might serve as a hangout for the adults, though? So I'm trying to get the real story here. I'm wondering: 1. is there any way that planting SD could worsen mosquito problems? (I don't keep standing water, but I can't speak for my neighbors.) If so, what's the best way to maintain the SD to minimize them? 2. could the SD actually *help* with mosquitoes, by attracting critters that feed on adults - anoles, dragonflies (if they eat the tiny bees that love the SD flowers), etc.? Thank you so much for your information! Brian

Just linking to the answer that was already provided on another site. I think it is a good one. I will add that I suspect horseherb might help promote all insect species and the accompanying predators of these insects.

That's also me asking that question! When it comes to mosquitoes and the attracting/repelling thereof, I believe in getting second opinions ;-) Thanks for the research.
