Hello All,

It's -10.8 this morning -- sure puts me in the mood for spring. Is anyone out there going to the Harmonious Planting Design Symposium on Feb 10? I always enjoy meeting fellow GW posters. Lunch table together?

3 out of the 4 speakers were informative and entertaining, so I'd give it a B+ -- I especially enjoyed Craig Bergmann's observations and slides. It was also nice to meet Nan Sinton, who leads international garden tours for Horticulture magazine. I've considered going on a tour in the future, but wanted to be sure that the guide would be personable -- she was delightful. Now I've got to stop buying plants and save for a trip!

Overall it was a good day out, but I did find myself wondering about the purported theme of "harmonious planting design." There was some talk of repetition of architectural elements between the house and garden, but the presentations were primarily slides of plants to use -- in containers, in shade, in place of invasives. I was expecting more analysis of specific garden scenes, and why their designs are considered exceptional. Bergmann did touch on this, but he spoke more in terms of the professional considerations in designing for others.

This is leading me to a new post...

Thanks for the remarks. I have considered going, just too lazy to drive over. I hate city traffic. Maybe I will try harder next year.

Interesting on the design tips. Repetition of interest itmes, same plants repeated, is supposed to a good plan for drawing things together.

I am trying to repeat a little, just like variety!

I would have liked to have gone. I had plans that day, I learned about the talk too late.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
