Walnut trees from the nut

We are wondering if a black walnut tree can be grown from a walnut that has fallen from a tree on our property?

Yes, the squirrels plant them all the time, and some will germinate and grow into trees. I would suggest planting a few nuts in the fall, mark the spot, and see what happens.
