earliest date for planting lupines in Traverse City?

| I've been wanting to try lupines for a few years now.
Noticed that some of the stores like Meijers are starting to carry their boxed plants [lupines box of 3 for $4.99]. That didn't seem like an exorbitant amount to pay for some "experimental" plants. However, I'd hate to pick a box up and hve the roots/plants all croak by planting time. If I did pick a box up, how should/could I store the plants until able to plant?

Must resist the urge, must resist....I've tried some of those box plants (but from Home Depot, not Meijer) and had dismal results. Better to wait till May and get a potted plant from a reputable nursery for about the same price. On the other hand, you could always pot them up now and keep them inside for planting out in the spring. Gardeners are a thrill-seeking lot. |
