Lemon Cypress

I am a newbie to the garden forum. My question is - I bought a lemon cypress from the garden center I just started working for. From reading some previous postings, people were planting their cypresses outside as a year round plant. Someone told me that it wouldn't tolerate winter weather. If I were to plant it in a southern exposure in a protected spot would it survive? Can anyone help me here?

RE: Lemon Cypress

I'm afraid it would not make it. It is a cultivar of Monterey cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) called 'Goldcrest', and it is only hardy to zone 7 at best.
