Looking for something like variegated ginger

I was watching a gardening show on DIY network this weekend and they planted some variegated ginger at the property. It looked really nice, but I don't think it would survive in my zone. Anyone know of a plant that would be similar leaf and color yet survive in zone 5?

I don't know how big the ginger gets, but a variegated Convallaria (Lily-of-the-Valley) would be somewhat similar and hardy. There are several different forms, but availability is often limited.
