Shrubs for Shade?

I am looking for a type of shrub that would be fine in mostly shade that is not poisionous to dogs. Any ideas? I want it to go in front of my deck.

I think yews might work in the shade. Rhodies should, too. Have no idea about whether they're toxic to dogs, though.

Here is a list of poisonous plants from the humane society, both yews and rododendrons are on there.
