If the rest of the year goes the way of winter, early spring...

... forget the melons, the okra, the other heat lovers, and plant a lot of cool crops this year.

No snow here in the northern 'burbs of Detroit, but January-February like temps this past week -- lows in the low teens, highs in the upper 20s. Finally cracked freezing yesterday, barely. Might be 36-37 out there today.

It's kind of disappointing. I know last year was abnormally warm, but I was planting things by now in the greenhouse and even a few outside. I think the soil is still frozen right now.

Still cold near Detroit, the juncos haven't left yet, but the goldfinches are sure turning bright gold, so there is hope. Weatherman says Sunday will be 68 degrees! Gotta go water the tomato seedlings.....
