A T. wagnerianus palm by the Pacific Ocean on Saltspring Island, BC makes a nice ornamental tree in a palm & exotic garden in southwestern British Columbia.

Jargon: "wag", "waggie"
Name: Wagner's palm

Nice photo!

Is this palm rare? I love tropical plants, but living in zone 4 makes it hard to grow tropical plants outdoors year 'round. Is this tree growing on private property or in a public garden?

Is that you in the picture?
Thanks,
Mike

Yes

It's not a palm that you could just purchase anywhere where palms are sold from Vancouver to San Diego. Not an easy find, I bought several in Vancouver but I was lucky to find them. The garden is private but palms can be see in public gardens in nearby Ganges. The person on the photo is a local of Saltspring. He was showing me around and knew that I'd appreciate seeing the palms, acacias and eucalyptus specimens on his home island. Here's a Jubaea palm in the same private garden.

Cheers
