High and Dry

I live near Milwaukee and have a large (30 X 30) deck on the second floor. There are no trees anywhere near so the area gets sun from early morning until about 5 PM.

We have been here for 4 years. The first two years, I had great looking petunia's in window boxes. The past 2 years sucked. They got spindly looking and always seemed dry. I am going to try mini petunia's this year as I heard they do better in the heat.

Any other hardy plants that anyone can recommend?

Many thanks and I hope any of you with Harley's can come for the 105th and see my plants when you look up.

Did you pinch back the petunias? When I lived in the city I had 30 foot of porch boxes...and they did really well IF I deadheaded and really kept up the watering. Dwarf snapdragons and Gazania worked well too. You might have to mulch too if it gets that hot. I always added peat and bags of manure to the soil too.
