Black Lace Elderberry-Sambucus nigra 'Eva'

| Has anyone grown this variety in Canada zone 5? I need to know if it dies to the ground in winter. |

| I bought a decorative elderberry a couple of years ago. It very well could have been Sambuca. I remember it was fairly expensive with dark lacey foliage, and stems. I planted it by my natural pond/stream thinking it liked to be moist. Didn't do anything really, and didn't come back the next year either. Maybe too much moisture. I live by Guelph, Ont. zone 5b. |

| Zone 4 WI. I planted 2 last summer. They did not die back to the ground. I now have new growth on last years stems and at the base. |

| They're very hardy. I have one (4 years old - roots pruned every other year) in a container & I leave it on a grow bench against an unheated garage 3' off the ground all winter long. I toss a little snow on it if I think it's getting dry. I can't tell you how many times I was asked if it was a Japanese maple. Al |
