i put a wandering jew i recently bought outside...it's been outside for a couple days and when i looked at it today it was turning brown! what did i do? was it because of the cold nights we're having (in the detroit area) or did it get burned from the full sun? all i did was buy it, set it outside, and water it once! what's happening? i dont want my pretty purple plant to die?! i'm so worried....

ummmmm, sounds to me like it was too much of a shock for the poor thing to be put outside, after it was accustomed to being indoors. It hasn't had to deal with any temperature variation at all, no drying winds, and no direct sunlight.........
I'd bring it inside if it's still OK, and "slowly acclimatize" any plants to their new environment. Put your new plant outside for an hour the first day,(in the shade at first, don't want to get a sunburn) two on the second day, longer and longer, then leave it out for the night....and after about 10 days of this special treatment it'll love the outdoors.....
But, only once nighttime temps are warmer, these indoors plants are somewhat "tropical" in origin.
Good luck, with a bit of preparation you will have a "happy" plant.
    great, gardening to you, Justine
