found growing in a woods around Traverse City , MI -- the leaves remind me of columbine

Possibly Blue Cohosh (Caulophyllum thalictroides).

This is a wild thalictrum aquilegiafolium, appropriately named because the leaves do resemble columbine. I have it growing wild at the cottage (Big Rideau Lake) and some hybridized varieties in my home garden.

Yes, it's Blue Cohosh (Caulophyllum thalictroides). My yard is full of it and it makes a BEAUTIFUL carpet under my deciduous trees.
