Where can if find Mountain Laurel locally?

Posted by rickj62 Chicago IL, zone 5 (My Page) on

Does anyone in Chicago have any experience growing Mountain Laurel here? I've been to several nurseries in the area and can't find it, and have been told that it isn't hardy here. But I've seen several articles and see it advertised on mail order nurseries as being hardy in zone 5. Has anyone had any luck with it here and if so, do you know where I can buy it locally?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I've grown it for years, though it isn't always the happiest plant. A slightly protected site (a warm wall, for instance) would be fine, I would think. I got mine from Gethsemane in Chicago, I think.
