Posted by haggard Northern Ontario (My Page) on

We have bamboo growing around our house. It is very beautiful but it is not contained. The roots are getting in under our footings of the basement. We want it gone. Any Ideas? We have cut it down used Round up, Bleach, nothing works. Please help.

I've heard that injecting full-strength roundup directly into the canes will do the trick. The problem is if the bamboo is widespread you have to get rid of all of it or it will keep coming back.

This article has some other suggestions:

were I in your situation, I would post this message on the bamboo forum. There you will get many responses from people willing to trade for the bamboo or better advise on how to get rid of it. My best guess is that you will likely have to dig up much of the rootmass as trying to inject roundup into the culms will prove futile in eradicating the majority of the rootmass of the plant

What zone are you in?
