New to Lilies

I am thinking of planting some kind of dark red lily in honor of my dog. She was born in late July and she died in mid July almost 16 years later. So I am thinking of a lily that would bloom in July in Zone 5 (Northwest suburbs of Chicago). For some reason I want it to be a very dark red and I need the plant to be somewhat carefree and if it spreads on it's own that would be wonderful. My yard is mostly sunny and the spot I am thinking of gets quite a bit of afternoon sun. Does anybody have any ideas of what lilies to get, where to order them online and when do I plant them? Thank you.

I am sorry about your dog.
The Lily Garden is the best bet to find which lily you want.

Most dark red lilies are Asiatic lilies. They bloom in June in our area, though. I like to plant Lilies in spring. But you can plant them both in spring and fall.

Carefree lilies are Asiatic and trumpet/orientpet. Orientals are not long lived for me.

There is a red lily named Francis of Asissi. That might be appropriate.

Watch out for the bright red Lily Beetle...if not controlled, it will eat most true lilies into the ground.
