SW MICHIGAN FALL PLANT SWAP AND POT LUCK

~:~ THIS SWAP IS FOR PERENNIALS ONLY ~:~

(it is not for annuals, ground covers, herbs or house plants)

DATE: 8 September, 2007

TIME: 10:00AM - 2:00PM

PLACE: Wayland City Park, Park St & W Cherry St, Wayland MI 49348

Bring your plants, bring your friends and their plants, bring your dish to pass and join in the fun!

SWAP MATERIALS & PLANT SIZE: perennial plants, shrubs, well-rooted cuttings and divisions (potted up) and bulbs. We swap plants that are well established, of good size (size you would be thrilled to buy at the store), and in gallon pots or larger (gallon pots are approx 6 inches across x 6.5 inches tall). Bring along photos of your plants if you can. Please mark if they are invasive or not ... mini blinds cut up and written on with #2 pencil make great tags. MARK ALL PLANT MATERIALS WITH THE PLANT NAME AND CARE REQUIRED. PUT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS ON BACK OF TAG. Check out plant photos and tags from the Spring Swap: http://link.toolbot.com/photobucket.com/83947

POT LUCK: Please bring a dish to pass with serving utensils, and your own beverage; be sure to bring and mark your serving spoons etc. with your name. Paper plates, napkins, cups & plastic silverware provided.

* If your last name begins with A-L. * please bring a main dish or vegetable.

* If your last name begins with M-Z. * please bring a dessert or salad.

GIFT EXCHANGE: If you wish to participate in the Gift Exchange drawing, please bring along ONE, UNWRAPPED, NEW, GARDEN-RELATED ITEM VALUED AT $5 TO $10 (enough advance notice for you to be able to find bargains!). Present your item at Registration to receive your gift drawing ticket. Only those who donate an item will be eligible to participate in the drawing. Please only bring ONE gift each.

10:00AM People arrive, register with your name, address and number of plants, get name tag, set plants in swapping area, put out food, introduce yourself to the other gardeners and view the plants.

11:45AM Â Pot luck followed by Gift Exchange

1:00PM - Swapping begins.

After the swap there will be time for more visiting, have more dessert and say our goodbyes.

This is a Round Robin Swap.

Rounds #1-2-3 - everyone selects one plant.

Rounds #4-5-6 - everyone selects 2 plants, and on and on!

This way everyone gets a chance to get some of the plants they really have on eye on. Everyone should be able to take home as many plants as they bring. Remember, only those who bring plants participate in the swapping.

TIPS FOR THE DAY: bring a folding chair; bring and mark your serving utensils for your dish to pass. The City Park has a children's play area and rest rooms for your convenience. If you bring children please bring someone to watch them at all times so that they are safe and you can relax. It helps to have some way to transport your plants from your vehicle to the swap area - wheel barrow, wagon, sled etc.

Mark your calendar! POST, PRE-REGISTER and EMAIL NOW with RSVP - it helps us get a head count. (This helps us know how many plates, cups, etc. to bring)

Hope to see you there  happy gardening.

Nothing I know of in the Flint area - if anyone in the Michigan Perennials group posts about activity in that area I will pass it along. At our swap we have had people from as far north as Traverse City and south to beyond Indianapolis! You just never know who will show up and what gorgeous plants they will bring along and best of all the plants at our swaps are in 1 gallon pots and larger - no seedlings or ground cover in sight! You can check out pictures from the Spring Swap 2007 at the link below. Enjoy browsing thru them!
