Sweet William, Flint area

| Grandma used to plant this flower, and I tried it too. Apparently I planted it last year, as it is a bienniel. I got two beautiful plants this year.
My question is:
Has anyone from my area had luck with the Sweet William Barbatus reseeding, and surviving our winters with new plants in spring? |

| Sweet William will re-seed freely in our zone -- in a couple of years you will have an annual display as the 1st year rosettes alternate with flowering plants. Rabbits do like to nibble on the rosettes over the winter, however, which can impact flowering. |

| I planted sweet williams from seed about 5 years ago and even though it is a bi-annual I get groups of sweet williams throughout my garden every year. They re-seed themselves easily: I've been digging them up because I have too many of them and I think I am in the same zone as you. I even see them coming up through the snow in the spring. The garden is close to the house so I doubt that the rabbits come up this far. |
