Cardinal flower problems

Hello everyone!!!

Well here is the story I had Cardinal flower last year and it was georgous and the Hummers loved it. This year it started growing and the RABBITS loved it, so I fenced it, and now the stalks just seem to wither away, so the one plant that had georgous stalks and started to get blooms have withered to nothing. So no flowers for the Hummers.

Has anyone hadf this problem???

Thanks Lary

Based on what I have read and my own experience, the cardinal flower is not a long-lived perennial. It is perhaps better treated as an annual.

Cardinal flower is native to pond and stream edges and needs wet soil. Are you keeping it watered or in a wet area? Although it may be short lived, it does seed itself in my bog garden.
