Problem new Kentucky Blue Grass sod

mpbernard

Can you help us diagnose and treat this major problem

my husband and I are having with new Kentucky Blue

Grass sod?

After installing other types of new sod ourselves that

took beautifully, my husband and I agreed to have a pro-

fessional landscaper put down Kentucky Blue Grass in 4

areas. Our entire backyard as well as 3 sections where three

50 foot evergreen trees, trunks, and roots were removed in

Spring of this year. All areas have good sunlight during

the day, without any signs of obvious pests or disease.

After the landscaper installed our new Kentucky Blue Grass

in April, 2010 we implemented our usual care plan to get

this sod well-established including 1) mowing at a 3 inch

length, 2) regular watering to help set up a strong root

system, and 3) Spring Green fertilization. While all four

areas looked great until June, 2010, the three areas where

evergreen trees previously grew, now appear to be showing

huge, yellow areas of dry, almost dying sod despite regular

watering during our recent high temperatures and humidity

in a suburb just outside of Chicago.

What may be causing this very disappointing Kentucky

Blue Grass problem, and how can we fix it ASAP?

Thanks in advance for any and all professional guidance

you can give.
