Why is SE Mich and West Coast Mich Same as KY to TX Zone?

Wow,

SE Michigan and West Coast Michigan are the same Hardiness Zone as parts of Ky, TN, AS, and TX.

Is this due to our proximity to relatively warmer Great Lakes? Chicago seems much colder, even though Detroit and Chicago are both Heat Island Effects.

Very very interesting. I guess that is why Michigan benefits from generally prevailing westerly winds and is such an important fruit growing state. We'll take it!

Texas at least received some rain in the last month.
Tonight I hear a hard pitter patter on the roof, a sound I haven't heard since early August!
"Here" is slightly NE on Georgian Bay, Lake Huron. We had an invisible do not cross line when south-western rain clouds brought days of rain to lower Michigan, Ohio and lower Ontario but only a few drops above that line! Some crops are dismal. And I watered much more than other summers!
The dry humid air which felt like Texas at times has hopefully returned to Texas!
