I'm a new gardener in Chicago...I'm planning a winter, rooftop garden but am not sure what to plant or if it is too late to plant seeds...HELP!!! Where do I start? Is it too late?

You could try wintersowing. Go to the Winter Sowing forum here at G'web, or at wintersown.org. You can grow plants over the spring and summer that will provide winter interest (i.e. ornamental grasses, sedums), and food/habitat (e.g. echinacea), for birds if you are interested in attracting them.
