Crepe Myrtles in Ohio

Posted by worthwhile1 z5 OH (My Page) on

I have no experience in growing CMs and am wondering if anyone relatively close to Columbus, Ohio does. In my research I have read the lowest zone they are recommended for is zone 6, but I have also read there are species that can take a winter low temperature of -10 to -15 ( which would be fine in my zone 5b ). Any input would be appreciated.

I have a sister in Cincinnati that has a white CM. I am sorry that we do not know more about it, but it is very happy there in her back yard. It gets full sun for most of the day and tolerates drought. It has been a very dry year there but the CM has been in full bloom and looking lovely! I am in NWPA and plan on trying one here.

you might post this on the Ohio Valley Forum as well
there are a lot of people there pushing the zone 5/6 envelope with bananas, palms and other tropicals.

at the cleveland Metro Zoo they have some crepe myrtles that bloom as well as at Rockerfeller Park
