Start a Tropics of Michigan Botanical Society?

I've had a thought for awhile regarding starting a "Tropics of Michigan - Botanical Society".

My thoughts were those in Michigan could start a users group and try to meeting Bi-Annually to present our works, other known works, and invite guest speakers from MSU ext., local nurseries, etc.

It could be lots of fun. Between this site and the http://www.flickr.com/groups/northerntropicalplants/ Garden Forum, there seems to be plenty of folks here in SE Michigan to get this started.

Is anyone else interested? I could plan a first meeting for February 2011 at a local library or MSU Extension Office, or the like.

Please let me know if you are interested by responding to this thread. I'll put it out on Flicker site as well...

So are you thinking of focusing on the home hobbiest? Folks with personal greenhouses? Nurseries? ....

Also, how "tropical" is tropical? Strictly rainforest? Desert included? Mountain included? ....

Just some thoughts. ;)
