pesticides for roses: alternatives??

Well, this was a very bad year for my tea roses. I had to travel a few times and leave them unattended. The bugs ate the leaves and practically killed them!! THanks to Mr McGuinty, my local store no longer carries any of the rose dust that used to take care of this problem. I wasn't a mad duster or anything, but once or twice a summer kept everything under control.

I am now looking for more natural or acceptable methods of controlling aphids, and those green worms that eat everything...(possibly slugs also, though i don't think so)

What are other people using these days?

thanks in advance for any help. Hopefully next year will be better if I get a start early with your suggestions.

A spray of water will kill aphids due to their soft bodies. Not sure what your green worms are, but if a caterpillar then Bt would do.
