Can I grow rapini?

| We are just outside Ottawa and grow lots of vegetables. Recently, we have purchased rapini, also called broccoli rabe. Has anyone grown this in Ontario? Did it do well?

| Should be easy to grow in your area, in fact, you probably have a near optimal climate for it, since it likes cooler temperatures. You can make successive plantings about every 2 or 3 weeks from very early spring until about mid-August. It does attract cabbage worms and flea beetles, so grow it under floating row cover, or dust with Sevin or an organic insecticide. It matures quickly, probably in about 6 weeks from sowing. |
