Sowing seed in snow

Posted by gardeninprogress MI (My Page) on

Anyone ever sow perrenial seed in the snow????

I'm trying to overcome a wild turkey prob. . . and someone suggested I sow seed just before a snowfall. They seem to think the seed will melt down, go through dormancy, and then give necessary hydration for germination.

Since there's a good foot of snow out there. . . . I'm not sure if this will work. . . or if it will provide 'bird seed' for the wildlife when the snow melts.

Anyone have any success w/ this????

RE: Sowing seed in snow

Have you ever looked at the Wintersowing forum? I know you are talking about putting seed out directly into the garden and not into a container that is placed out in the snow, but you may find some helpful information.

Here is a link that might be useful: GardenWeb's Wintersowing forum
