Just when you think winters over!

| I thought the cold weather was over, we have had such beautiful days the last couple of weeks. I could see new growth on my older plants. My larkspurs, and other volunteers were just coming up. I had a bad case of spring fever and went to the nursery and had a field day. Then this week it freezes down in the 20's for the last two days. I guess I should never try and second guess mother nature. Barbra, |

I agree, but we always will. I think that deep down in our hearts, we think that if we act like spring is here, it will be. ha! Jim |

I know what you mean, Honeybunny! It's gotten down into the mid-20's for the past two nights, cold for this area. Fortunately, the only plant that has made any new growth is my newly planted little silverbell tree - I made a frame out of tomato stakes and covered the frame with old sheets, and so far, so good! The wild blueberries in the woods are blooming, but the flowers don't appear to be hurt by the freezes. I hope you've got a warm place for your new plants! Sherry |

| They predicted mid 20s here for overnight Thursday and I took the typical precautions, even moved my tomato seedlings out of the cold frame and brought them indoors. Turns out our low was only 32°. That was supposed to be our low this morning, but when I got up around 7 there was frost on the ground and a thin coat of ice on the birdbath. Guess they got that one wrong too. Clegg's nursery had gallon size tomato plants in their newspaper ad the other day. It said "tomato plants are here! Are you willing to risk it? 8 tempting varieties." Our last frost date is usually mid March and some years I'll plant a few tomatoes maybe a week or two early, but not a month! |

| I have an old pear tree that usually puts out softball sized pears, but that hard freeze last night probably ruined that for this year. I drove around today and saw brown Japanese magnolias everywhere. Those things always seem to bloom too early. |

| Some years ago we had a local weatherman who, when the weather was like this (up and down and up again, and let's hope not more of the same!) he'd say 'they're trying to crack us!' Are we cracked yet? I have been for years! |
