Pony Tail Palm - Help

Posted by melinda_p_b 9 So TX (My Page) on

Three years ago, I planted a small pony tail palm close to my house, not knowing how big they got. It's now over 3 feet wide and over 6 feet tall, and I've seen HUGH ones in my area. So I need to move it, but the only place it can go is where it will be in full sun. So will it do well there? Or do I need to put it in a pot and place it in my covered porch? I live in the Rio Grande Valley if it matters any.

Thanks for any info .... mel

My ponytail loves full sun. Its even in a large black pot. Afraid to put it in ground 'cause I've seen some bigguns! Mines only 3' with full head of hair.

They grow in Baja California in full sun. I think the babies might like some protection.
Tally HO!

I keep mine in a pot as well, it is about 4 feet tall and full... I keep it in part sun under a overhang on my patio. Same thing, scared to put it in the ground because they get huge! :)
