Planting Pygmy Date Palm in Coastal Texas

Posted by manveltx Texas (My Page) on

I just purchased a palm tree in a 3 gallon pot and would like to plant it in my yard. Can anyone tell me the correct dirt to use?

I live in coastal Texas (Brazoria county) and the soil here is mostly thick clay.

Thank you.

Plant it in the dirt you have.
You don't want to dig a hole & fill it with good dirt because the clay soil will act like a bowl and hold water & drown your plant.
Mulch around it. They do very good on the coast.
Tally HO!
