I always learn something new when I come here. I have them all over the yard in clumps and think they're beautiful. Are these considered a 'weed' or a wildflower?
I planted a "weed" spiderwort next to some blush knockouts and the combination was very pretty and easy. The spiderworts were even more strikingly blue and lush in the amended garden soil :)
I like this Post, great to find people that just love beauty even when we don't plant them ourselves. I am enjoying violets in my yard, in fact at this time they are the only flowers in bloom here in Texas. Thanks for the Wonderful Post Paul in Texas
They really are pretty but they spread like wildfire. They also root pretty deep so it's impossible to just pull them up. I read some where you can eat the young leaves, no idea if that's true.
In the midwest, farmers call tradescantia/spiderwort "cow slobber" because of the slimy stuff inside the stems...And Amy's right, it's only a weed if you don't like it!
