Oleander

My Oleanders are in bloom just as most of yours probably are. I have been extremely busy with work and my two year old and neglected pruning when I should have. I did the same with the crape myrtles, but I don't like the way they look when I prune them anyway. The only problem with the oleander is that it will take over my neighbors driveway if I don't prune it. I have four in the back that also need pruning but three of them are already in the power lines (which are sagging low- the trees aren't THAT tall). Will they bloom again if I prune them now or should I let them have their show of flower and then prune them back? Would they bloom a second time with our long growing season? Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Oleander

I would let them show off their Spring flush of flowers first if you are thinking of severely pruning them, though a few branches just to shape them shouldn't hurt (though if they are hitting the electrical lines be careful). They tend to bloom on branches which are a year old or older, and the prime time to severely prune them would be Sept. or Oct. The link below may be helpful.

Here is a link that might be useful: Oleander culture

RE: Oleander

Prune it. I never wait for mine to quit blooming, I'd be out there in December if I did.
The light co. might just trim the others if you don't watch out. Is it the electric lines or the cable or phone wires that are hanging?
Tally HO!
