Summer Planting

Posted by luluboy (My Page) on

I live in Southern Ca. most of the year but move to New Iberia, LA every summer. I want to add to my daughter's flower garden the first week of June. Any suggestions as to what I can plant in the heat?

RE: Summer Planting

There are quite alot of choices depending on if you want shrubs, perennials, or annuals, in sun or shade. But here are some excellent choices (gardened 25 yrs in Louisiana):
lantana
pentas
knockout roses
salvia/sage
mandevilla
hibiscus
canna lillies
ginger
moonvine
sunflowers -big or small
zinnias - profusion zinnias
ruellia
there's more but these are tried and true
